DIY: Coffe Scrub

Saturday, July 19, 2014

Its summer time and you're showing more skin than usual, and nothing is more summery than glowy skin. I found that the best way to get my skin to look its best is by using a body scrub at least once a week depending on how much I'm in the sun. Lately I have been using a coffee scrub you make in your kitchen. Its super simple and only takes two ingredients, coffee grounds [wet or dry], coconut oil [or any oil of your choosing], and coffee scrubs are said to aid in the reduction/prevention of cellulite who doesn't want that?! I like to mix the texture of my coffee grounds to give me a deeper scrub. I also like to use this on dry skin in the shower. So I do this before I turn the water on, and I would absolutely recommend that you do this in the shower because this is messy and will get every where.

Coffee is a great product to incorporate into your skin regime because it has tons on beneficial compounds such as acids, carbohydrates, sugar, lipids and many more. When making a coffee scrub you can really use any coffee you'd like or have available. I however, like an espresso grind because its a fine grind and typically dryer than others. I've also read that it contains the most residual caffeine [++ for cellulite]. The great thing about this is that you can make it completely customizable to make your own house blend. Like adding a little honey for it anti-microbial properties, sea salt for a little extra scrub plus making you feel squeaky clean. Make small batches at a times to keep things fresh.

What you'll need:

  • 2 tablespoons used coffee grounds

  • 1 tablespoon dry coffee grounds

  • 2 tablespoons oil

  • Do you guys have any diy scrubs you use?

    Have a lovely day!
